St.
Gregory the Great School is a modern facility on a spacious
setting of 14 ½ acres in the northeast part of
Danbury. It has low density with little traffic. Bus
transportation is provided for any student residing
in Danbury.

| Awards
and Achievements |
Fourth Grade Teacher, Katie Sniffin, received
the National Catholic Education Association Distinguished
Teacher Award on 2003.
The First Grade received third place in the Connecticut Chapter
of the Statistical Association competition.
A second grader won the Connecticut Dinosaur State Park’s
“Dinosaurs and their Environment” contest.
A fourth grader was the State of Connecticut winner in the
Zaner Bloser Writing Contest.
Fourth Grade earned the privilege of naming a bridge in Danbury
after a presentation to the Mayor and City Council.
A sixth grader won the school competition to participate in
the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee.
An eighth grader won Danbury Lion’s Club Peace Poster
Contest.
The Paleontology Team (grades four through eight) competed
at the state’s Paleo Knowledge Bowl.
The school’s Geography Bee winner (from eighth grade)
competed at the state competition.
Five students (grades four through eight) advanced to the
state level of the Reader’s Digest National Word
Challenge.
Students from each grade won awards in advertising design,
cover design, writing and drawing in the Danbury News-Times
Advertisement and Writing Contest. |
| Accreditation,
Curriculum and Testing |
The school is fully accredited by the New England
Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
The fully certified teaching staff follows a curriculum approved
by the State of Connecticut and the Diocese of Bridgeport.
The current curriculum includes science, social studies, reading,
math, algebra, language arts, Spanish, spelling, physical education,
religion, art, music, and computer literacy.
All textbooks are current.
Math and writing programs are being upgraded for the new school
year.
Iowa tests are administered in Kindergarten through seventh
grade.
Iowa test scores are well above the national norm. |
| Technology |
The school is building a new Media Room, which
will include books (primarily for grades one through four),
computers, software, Smart Boards and listening centers.
The Computer Room contains 17 new IBM computers with Internet
access.
Each classroom contains a minimum of six computers with Internet
access.
Each classroom contains a videotape monitor and player.
Grades one through eight have the use of three Smart Boards
for presentations and instruction.
Fourth Grade just received 10 new laptop computers.
Every eighth grader has a laptop computer for use in math, science
and social studies.
The school just purchased a Digital Presentation Appliance (DPA)
which connects to a PC and LCD projector creating a large, interactive
projection screen.

We are building a new Science Room for the
upcoming school year featuring
state-of-the-art, hands-on equipment and materials for Kindergarten
through Eighth Grade.
Four digital microscopes are the first Science Room purchases.
The Science Room Committee is researching participation in
the Jason Program, offered by the Wood Hole Oceanographic
Institution.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders participated in the school’s
annual Science Fair.
Two eighth graders were finalists in the Science Horizons
Physical Science Division.
A seventh grader earned third place in the Science Horizons
Biological Division.
Two seventh graders won second place in the Science Horizons
Junior Team Biological Division.
The school operates a rooftop weather station in cooperation
with Channels 4 and 8.

| Enrichment |
Each grade participated in school assemblies
and class trips.
Students in grades four through eight take lessons in brass,
wind and string instruments.
Students were elected to and participated in Student Council
programs.
Qualified students participated in the John Hopkins Talent
Search.
Fifth graders completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education
(D.A.R.E.) Program.
Seventh and eighth graders participated in a drama program.
Seventh and eighth graders participated in the Loving for
Life Program with their parents.
