Mission Statement
St. Gregory the Great School, in cooperation with the parents, was established for the purpose of giving the students a God-centered, Catholic outlook on life. We strive for academic excellence in an atmosphere of religious and moral training, which leads to self-discipline that gives direction and certainty to the lives of our students.
St. Gregory the Great is a Pre School through Grade 8 school - fully accredited by:
National Catholic Education Association
New England Association of Schools and Colleges and
National Association for the Education of the Young Child
Our teachers are fully certified and follow the curriculum approved by the Diocese of Bridgeport and the State of Connecticut
We worship - St. Gregory the Great School is committed first to “giving students a God-centered Catholic outlook on life” and we do this through school and class liturgies, frequent prayer services, sacramental preparation, and special prayer services such as Living Stations of the Cross, the May Crowning and Blessing of the Animals.
We Learn – We are committed to “academic excellence” and our offerings include reading, religion, language arts, social studies, science, mathematics, algebra, art, music, drama, physical education and computer literacy. Our Spanish teacher is full-time! Our textbooks are current and regularly updated. Our classrooms are all multimedia classrooms.
We Enrich - Our Computer Lab has 17 New IBM computers and there are 3 full sets of laptops that can be used by any class. Every classroom has access to the Internet. There are 5 smart boards and a fully equipped, state of the art, 2000 square foot science lab. We have a rooftop weather station and many live animals in our science lab. We take class trips including seventh grade trips to Boston and eighth grade trips to New York City and Washington, D.C. Students produce their own professional quality yearbook and have an opportunity to take part in many activities such as Parochial League Basketball, cheerleading the John Hopkins Talent Search, the National Geographic Geography Bee, Yale’s Paleo Knowledge Bowl and the Reader’s Digest Word Power Challenge.
We Win Awards – We are proud to have State Spelling Bee Champions, Peace Poster Contest Winners, Dinosaur Poster Contest Winners, Paleo Knowledge Bowl finalists and winners. We have the NCEA Distinguished Teacher for New England 2004 Award and the NCEA Distinguished Home School Association 2006
